After coming home from our favorite Mexican restaurant with some fresh tortillas, these Churro Chips came to mind as a fun Super Bowl dessert for the upcoming festivities. Made in under 20 minutes, these are a delicious and easy treat.

Now I make a mean carnitas, but when you’re in the mood for it and didn’t plan ahead you hit a restaurant. We have a go to here in San Diego, Old Town Mexican Café. We have been going there for 30 plus years now and truth be told I have only ever had the carnitas plate. It was my first introduction to them and cilantro. I was 19 at the time and amazed. To this day nothing on the menu has swayed me to try it as the carnitas is all I need.

Mainly due to the fresh, handmade flour tortillas made right there to order. Soft, warm and fresh. They soothe the soul!

Well our favorite waiter got us the hook up and as we left he handed us a dozen of these amazing, yet simple beauties.

These come together quick, too. Place a tortilla on a clean working surface and brush each side with butter and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top. Repeat with other tortillas, stacking each on top of the other as you go.

With a sharp knife slice the stack into quarters and then quarters again. Arrange individual chips on lined baking sheets, don’t overlap.

Just bake these for 12-14 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oven and allow to cool. In a mixing bowl whip the heavy cream and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Serve with chips and a drizzle of Dulce de Leche if desired.

Have a fun, safe Super Bowl celebration everyone, and if you’re not watching the game, enjoy these with whatever you’re watching.

  1. 5 stars
This is such a simple and fun dessert Kevin! I never thought I can serve tortillas chips sweet, but the flavor sounds amazing! My friends will be so happy when I bring these to the party next time!

    1. Thanks Maggie, glad I could be there for a new twist on a dessert for you. Be sure to use flour, not corn, tortillas.
BTW, thanks for the shout out in your interview on Vermillion Roots with Christine. I really enjoyed her interviewing you and hearing your perspective. 🙂

  2. We may not have Super Bowl here in Australia (not that I’d even watch it), but I am loving some of the armchair snacks that have taken over the internet at the moment. Like these delectables you’ve made, Kevin. I’d even eat them for breakfast!

    1. Thanks John! Truth be told, I can’t for the life of me follow the game or really care. I do find a big game like this one exciting to watch, but I don’t get it. Dave on the other hand has tried numerous times to explain, but there is always some exception to the rule and when I think I get it, I don’t after all. So I cook… and bake or grill. That I do know!
Oh, and I have eaten these for breakfast this week, too! 😉

  3. I love this! 😀 You know that great mind think alike right? Coincidentally I made Cinnamon Chips on the blog too 😀 hahaha!! Although I am LOVING the idea of dulce de leche! I could eat that stuff straight from the can… YUM!! Churro flavor is the BEST! Pinned!

    1. Haha, look at us – two peas in a pod! These are so darn addicting. Have a great Super Bowl weekend filled with fun, great food and friends Dini. 🙂

  4. Hey Kevin! Seriously, serves 96? Who could eat just one of these – not me! When I’m ambitious I make my own tortillas – I have a cast iron tortilla press. I also make Mexican food because we don’t have an authentic Mexican restaurant anywhere near us…Taco Bell, uh NO! Have a great Superbowl feast my friend! 🙂

    1. Wow Dorothy, I’m jealous of that cast iron tortilla press. That is incredible. Yes, fast food Mexican is not Mexican food, it’s Mexican’t. No bueno Americanized junk. It’s one of my favorite cuisines and couldn’t live without it. Have a great weekend, too.

  5. Oh, these have my name all over ’em, Kevin! Laura and I used to have this bad habit of going out for churros for dessert back when we lived in Atlanta. Fortunately, there aren’t any places near us that serve churros…so we’re safe from that habit! But now that I’ve seen these, well, that habit might return to our kitchen. Well done, my San Diego friend! #WolfpackSuperBites

    1. Another fun and tasty one that isn’t fried, but baked. Still good, right? I think they are rather addictive. 🙂
Have a fantastic Super Bowl weekend friend. I had fun scrolling through your FB page and seeing pics of your boy Robert. Amazing the changes in 2 months.
